Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - The Cleburne Railroaders have placed Rafael Palmeiro on the Disabled List and signed LHP Jeff Dally, the club announced Friday.
Palmeiro, 53, has been dealing with an ongoing knee injury and has not played since Aug. 8 in Winnipeg.
The left-handed hitting first-baseman has a slashline of .301/.424/.495 in 31 games with Cleburne this year, and has added six homers and 21 RBI in 103 at-bats.
"It's just a nagging injury that has flared up again," Palmeiro said. "We're hoping that a few full days off will allow me the time and recovery I need to get back in the lineup for the final two weeks of the season."
Palmeiro has hits in each of his last three games and is 6-for-13 with two walks and 5 RBI in that span. After starting the year hitless in two games, the former big-leaguer is hitting .326 with 20 walks and 22 strikeouts.
Cleburne also added LHP Jeff Dally on Thursday. Dally, who joins the club after Jared Mortensen was acquired by the Kansas City T-Bones on Wednesday afternoon, will join the bullpen and become Cleburne's second option from the left side.
Dally, 26, has pitched in three different seasons of independent professional baseball and owns a career 0-0 record with a 4.91 ERA in 11 appearances. Over 11 innings, Dally has allowed seven runs on eight hits with 12 walks and eight strikeouts.
The Railroaders return home to open a three-game set with the AirHogs - with the first two played at The Depot - on Monday, August 20. Tickets and all promo information are available at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
