Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A Yankees) won the 2016 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Tuesday night at AutoZone Park, 3-1 over the El Paso Chihuahuas (Triple-A Padres), in front of a crowd of 9,471.

Tuesday's crowd pushed the total attendance for the Triple-A National Championship Game past the 100,000-mark since its inception in 2006.

With the win, the International League's RailRiders ended a four-game winning streak by the Pacific Coast League champions dating back to back-to-back titles by the Columbus Clippers in 2010 and 2011 and a 2009 championship by the Durham Bulls.

The big blow in the game was a three-run home run by Chris Parmelee in the first inning. RailRiders starter Jordan Montgomery worked 5.0 innings and gave up one run on six hits and did not issue a walk to go along with five strikeouts.

El Paso's run came in the sixth inning when Austin Hedges drove in Manuel Margot.

Giovanny Gallegos earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2017 Redbirds season opener is April 6, and the home opener is April 11. Season ticket, mini pack and promotional information will be available in the coming months.
