Hempstead, NY - The Carolina RailHawks lost their first game of the 2016 NASL Spring Season, falling, 1-0, to the reigning NASL champion New York Cosmos. The RailHawks, at 4-1-0, remain all alone in first place after five weeks of action.

Yohandry Orozco scored the only goal of the game for the Cosmos in the 45th minute.

"We certainly did not get off to the best start," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "Our staff felt like if we could get into halftime at 0-0 the game could change. Unfortunately, Orozco made a great move inside the box and he was able to slam one home just before the first half ended."

The Cosmos would also have a good majority of play to start the second half before Carolina would bounce back with three golden opportunities.

In the 69th minute, RailHawks captain Nazmi Albadawi, who leads the NASL with four assists, fed a pass to Brian Shriver. Shriver first-timed the shot to the far post; however, Cosmos goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was able to parry it away.

Albadawi would deliver another brilliant ball in the 84th minute to James Marcelin. Again, Mauer made a point-blank save to keep the RailHawks off the board.

Three minutes later, Albadawi would send a long ball over the top to Tiyi Shipalane. Shipalane tried to run it down but Mauer was 15 yards outside of his box to clear it away.

"We did not quit," Clarke said. "We had some quality opportunities to tie the Cosmos on the road. Give their goalkeeper credit for making three quality plays. Our team looks forward to getting back home."

The RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park Saturday, May 7, to face Ft. Lauderdale at 7:30 pm. Tickets are still available atwww.CarolinaRailHawks.com.
