North Carolina FC News Release

CARY, NC - The Carolina RailHawks announced the re-signing of one of the most important players in RailHawks history, defender Kupono Low, ahead of the 2016 season. Low, one of the most consistent players in the NASL, is set to return to Cary as the organization celebrates its 10th anniversary season.

"We are delighted to have Kupono back. He is without a doubt one of the top defenders in the league. He continues to perform at the highest level and is someone who has been part of the RailHawks since the team was created," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "Having him back for the team's 10th anniversary season will definitely be important for him and the club."

Kupono Low joined the RailHawks in the franchise's inaugural 2007 season, scoring the RailHawks' first-ever goal and earning the RailHawk's first-ever season MVP. In his nine seasons with the club, Low has won the admiration of soccer fans throughout North America thanks to his incredible level of consistency, his commitment to the RailHawks, and his leadership and mentorship of younger players.

Low holds the all-time record for most appearances with the club, with 244, earning him the nickname "Mr. RailHawk." In 2015, Low's years of hard work were rewarded when the official RailHawks beer (in collaboration with Lonerider Brewing) was named for him, Kupono Captain's Ale. On the field in 2015, Low started 22 matches for the RailHawks, playing 1,970 minutes and logging one assist while anchoring the defense.

Low has undeniably cemented himself as a fan favorite thanks to his tireless work on behalf of the organization, leadership, and exceptional defensive skills. The club stalwart and the RailHawks will open the 2016 season at home at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, April 2nd when they host Minnesota United FC.
