RailCats Re-Sign Maddox, Add Rookie Pitcher

GARY, Ind. - The RailCats have re-signed catcher Craig Maddox for a third season and signed right-handed pitcher Aaron Wilkerson, a rookie out of Cumberland University (Tenn.).

Maddox batted .235 with five homers and 40 RBI in 63 games for the RailCats in 2012. He was tied for second on the team in home runs and was fifth in RBI. He also hit the only grand slam of the season for the 'Cats on August 1 at Sioux City.

Maddox, 27 has played 114 games in two seasons with the RailCats, batting .268. The Georgia native has spent six seasons in professional baseball, including time in the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves organizations.

Wilkerson was an NAIA First-Team All-American in his senior season at Cumberland in 2011, when he went a perfect 12-0 with a staggering 1.49 ERA in 14 games, 13 starts. He struck out 90 batters in 90 1/3 innings and walked 22. Wilkerson held opposing hitters to a .179 average.

Wilkerson set an NAIA record with a 54 consecutive scoreless innings in 2011 and set the mark for consecutive victories in a career with 26. After losing his first decision with Cumberland as a junior transfer in 2010, he won each of his final 26 decisions. Wilkerson was 14-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings during his junior season and was named a Second-Team All-American.
