RailCats Lose 6-2 in Season Finale

GARY, IN- The Gary SouthShore RailCats (52-48) lost 6-2 to the Joplin Blasters (36-64) but celebrated a successful season with 3,551 fans at US Steel Yard.
Richard Castillo was charged with the loss in a six-inning effort. He surrendered four runs on eight hits while issuing two walks. Lars Liguori, Moises Melendez and Santiago Rodriguez pitched in relief.
Victor Ramirez earned the win in tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Harrison Lee and Roby Romero joined with scoreless relief innings.
The Blasters scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning to grab their first lead of the series. KC Huth reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a Mitch Glasser ground out. Geraldo Valentin knocked Huth home with a base hit to left field.
The RailCats struck back with a pair of runs in bottom half of the third. Colin Willis singled to begin the frame and Jarred Mederos notched a base hit two batters later. Andy DeJesus ripped a single into right field but was tagged out between first and second base for the second out of the inning. Then, Reggie Wilson knocked a ball to center field to score two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Joplin regained the lead in the top of the fifth. Axel Johnson started the big inning with a triple to center field. Two hits and a hit by pitch later, the Blasters had scored three runs to make the score 4-2.
The Blasters added a couple more runs in the 9th to seal the win. They tallied three hits including a double off of Santiago Rodriguez to bring the game to its final score, 6-2.
The highlights for the RailCats came before and after the game. Jose Gonzalez and Greg Tagert were honored on the field with owner Pat Salvi for their postseason awards. Gonzalez was the league's Defensive Player of the Year and Tagert was named Manager of the Year.
The team stepped out of the dugout after the game and tipped their cap to the fans to recognize their support. The players wore their throwback jerseys, which were auctioned off during the game. Fans could purchase the game-worn threads and talk to the player wearing the jersey afterwards.
