RailCats Add a Pair of Right-Handers and Waive Devarie

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats continued a busy week of moves today, by acquiring right-handed pitcher Laetten Galbraith to finalize the August 4th trade that sent Adron Chambers to Ottawa in the CAN-AM League and right-handed pitcher Joe Pavlovich for a player to be named from River City in the Frontier League. The RailCats also have placed infielder Elbert Devarie on irrevocable waivers.

RHP Laetten Galbraith will enter his third professional season in 2017, after spending the last two seasons north of the border with the Ottawa Champions of the CAN-AM League. A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Galbraith has spent time both as a starter and a reliever in his pro career. In two seasons with the Champions, he went 7-12 with a 4.98 ERA in 166.1 innings with 65 strike outs. Galbraith tossed 97.0 innings in 2106 going 3-7 with a 5.01 ERA in 13 starts while pitching in 23 games.

Galbraith fits the familiar RailCats pedigree with a successful college career also on his resume. The right-hander pitched at Louisiana Tech University, where he finished his Bulldog career in 2015. He made 50 appearances in three years on the mound for LA Tech. In his senior season, Galbraith made nine starts while appearing in 18 games and posted a 3.44 ERA.

Joe Pavlovich joins the RailCats from River City, where he went 4-2 in 19 games (11 starts), in 64 innings in the Frontier League in 2016. Pavlovich threw one complete game, with 44 strike outs and added a shut out for the Rascals last season. In 2015 the right-hander made two stops in the Frontier League working five innings for Southern Illinois and then moving on to River City where he went 2-1 with a 3.82 ERA in 30.2/3 innings.

Pavlovich is a native of Denmark, Wisconsin and played collegiately in his home state at both the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While at UW-Milwaukee, Pavlovich went 8-1 his senior season with a 3.37 ERA in 90.2/3 innings making 18 appearances.

Elbert "EJ" Devarie made his pro debut with Gary in 2015 after being signed on July 20th as free agent out of Ball State University. During his first season Devarie hit .257 with seven RBIs and followed that up hitting .244 with 26 RBIs last season. In two seasons with the RailCats he hit .246 in 118 with 33 RBIs.
