HUNTSVILLE, AL - Ben Bauer and Joe Sova both scored, Matt Zenzola made 24 saves in relief but the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs were defeated by the Huntsville Havoc, 5-2, Friday night at the Von Braun Center.

Huntsville started fast in the first period as it cashed in just under five minutes into the game. Nolan Kaiser found a bouncing puck in the high slot and threw it past a screened Brad Barone to make it 1-0.

The Havoc added to that lead a few minutes later off a tied up faceoff. Shawn Bates gained possession and his wrist shot beat Barone over the blocker side, pushing the lead to 2-0.

Roanoke fought back though as Sova carried the puck into the attacking zone and put a shot on goal. Keegan Asmundson made the initial save but Sova corralled the rebound and snapped it into the net to put the Dawgs on the board.

Huntsville wasn't done for the opening period however as a late goal from Stuart Stefan pushed the advantage to 3-1. That would be it for Brad Barone who was pulled after allowing three goals on 18 shots in 16:57 of game action.

Roanoke came out flying to begin the second but it was Huntsville that cashed in on its first scoring opportunity. Christian Powers picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and sped in on a breakaway. Zenzola made the initial save on the Powers deke but Sy Nutkevich was there to bang home the rebound, extending the lead to 4-1.

The Rail Yard Dawgs answered 61 seconds later. Mike Moroso slung a shot on net that Asmundson stopped but the rebound found Bauer's stick. Bauer roofed a snap shot for his first goal of the season and brought the deficit back to two.

Huntsville regained the three goal advantage late in the period as Nutkevitch gained the zone off a rush. He dropped a pass to the trailing Powers who fired a shot over Zenzola's blocker, giving the Havoc a 5-2 lead.

Bauer recorded a goal and an assist and he and Sova each netted their first goal of the season. The Rail Yard Dawgs fell to 5-10-2 with the loss while Huntsville improved to 10-4-2. Roanoke returns home to face the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday night. Puck drop for the Teddy Bear Toss game at the Berglund Center is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
