LAST TIME OUT: Riley Spraggs recorded two assists, Nick Schnedier, Colin Murray and Steve Mele each scored but the Rail Yard Dawgs were defeated by the Birmingham Bulls, 4-3, Thursday night at the Berglund Center. Roanoke out-shot Birmingham, 14-4, in the third period but was unable to complete the comeback.

THREE-IN-THREE: Roanoke will play three games in as many nights this weekend, the second time it has done so this season. The Rail Yard Dawgs previously went 1-2-0 in a three-in-three stretch from 11/23-25.

PLAYING WITH FIRE: Huntsville's offense has been stellar to open the season- it leads the league with an average of 3.7 goals per game. The Havoc has supplemented their even strength play with one of the strongest power plays in the SPHL. Huntsville has converted on 12 of its 56 chances with a man advantage, a success rate of 21.4%, the second-best in the league.

LEADING THE WAY: Steve Mele scored in the third period of Roanoke's 4-3 loss on Thursday and now has points in each of his last four games. Mele leads the Rail Yard Dawgs with 21 points (four goals, 17 assists). He has done this in 16 games, matching his point total from 2016-17 when he had eight goals and 13 assists in 29 games. Mele is tied for second in the league in assists and tied for third in total points.

WREAKING HAVOC: Huntsville center Sy Nutkevitch is even with Roanoke's Steve Mele for third in the league with 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists). Nutkevitch was named the league's player of the month for his efforts throughout October and November. He had eight goals including four game-winner and seven assists over Huntsville's first nine games.

POWERING UP: The Rail Yard Dawgs busted out of a brief power play slump on Thursday as they went 2-for-5 on the man advantage. Roanoke had been just1-for-11 on the power play in its previous three games.

NEW FACES: Roanoke's roster underwent a mild transformation this week with Paul Russell being traded to Macon in exchange for John Gustafsson . The Rail Yard Dawgs also made changes at the goaltending position- Matt Zenzola was signed and Ryan de Melo was placed on waivers. Zenzola spent the majority of the last two seasons in Pensacola where he was the 2016 President's Cup MVP. Gustafsson had tallied five goals and three assists over 15 games with the Mayhem this season. Additionally, Roanoke signed forward Mitch Vandergunst pregame on Thursday and had defenseman Travis Armstrong loaned to the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder on Wednesday.
