Raiders Top Blazers In Shootout

Prince Albert, SK - For the third game in a row, the Prince Albert Raiders (12-11-5-2) earned a point by heading to overtime. This time, Cole Fonstad scored the lone shootout goal to lift the Raiders to a 6-5 win over the Kamloops Blazers (13-15-0-1) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.

Fonstad scored in the second round of the skills contest, sliding a backhander through Blazers goaltender Dylan Ferguson.

In the first, the Blazers got on the board first midway through the period. Nick Chyzowski deflected a point shot past Ian Scott for his 10th goal of the year. With 5:24 remaining in the opening frame, Curtis Miske took a beautiful cross-crease pass from Spencer Moe and snapped it over Ferguson to tie the game and unleash the teddy bears.

Kamloops regained the lead 46 seconds into the second period. Brodi Stuart beat Scott for his eighth of the year. Midway through the period, the Raiders re-tied the game. Devon Skoleski roofed it over a sprawling Ferguson to make it a 2-2 game. With 13 seconds left in the period, Quinn Benjafield toe-dragged around the Raiders defence and chipped the puck over Scott to give Kamloops a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

Garrett Pilon extended the Blazers' lead at the 8:41 mark of the third period. He snapped a puck through Scott for his 14th of the year. Just eight seconds later, Jordy Stallard took a pass from Parker Kelly, outwaited Ferguson and tucked it into the net to bring the Raiders back within one. Less than two minutes later, Curtis Miske deposited a rebound in front to tie the game at 4-4.

With 5:20 remaining, the Blazers took the lead again. Connor Zary scored from the goal line for his fourth of the year to make it a 5-4 game. The Raiders tied it again with 2:32 remaining. Fonstad beat Ferguson for his 10th goal of the year, sending the game to overtime.

After some back and forth chances, the game headed to the shootout. Fonstad recorded the only goal in the shootout.

Scott stopped all three Blazers to earn the win. He made 35 saves through regulation and overtime. Ferguson stopped 32 shots in a losing effort.

The Raiders are back on the road on Sunday afternoon when they visit the SaskTel Centre for the first time this season to battle the Saskatoon Blades. Game time is 2:05 p.m.

The next Raiders' home game is on Wednesday, December 13 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
