Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Cranbrook, BC - The Prince Albert Raiders (10-10-4-1) erased a pair of two-goal deficits, but they were unable to pull ahead in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kootenay ICE (12-14-1-0) at Western Financial Place on Wednesday night.

Alec Baer ended the game 38 seconds into overtime with his 11th goal of the season.

In the first, Carson Miller appeared to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. However, the goal was reviewed and waved off due to Miller knocking the puck in with a high stick.

The ICE got the scoring going early in the second. Cameron Hausinger banged home a rebound past Ian Scott at the 1:34 mark to make it 1-0. With 7:28 to play in the frame, Jonathan Smart picked up a loose puck in front of the Raiders' net on a power play and beat Scott to give Kootenay a 2-0 lead.

About 1:30 after Smart's goal, the Raiders cut the lead in half. Sean Montgomery tallied his seventh of the year, solving Bailey Brkin from the slot with 6:02 to play in the second frame.

The ICE restored their two-goal lead less than three minutes later. Vince Loschiavo found a rebound in front of the Raiders goal and made no mistake to put the ICE up 3-1. That goal ended Scott's night. The Raiders' goaltender finished his outing with 17 saves.

Before the end of the second, the Raiders cut the ICE's lead back down to one. Spencer Moe took a cross-ice pass from Sergei Sapego and wired the puck past Brkin for his fifth of the season.

In the third, Curtis Miske was assessed a double minor for high sticking at the 7:23 mark. During the penalty kill, Parker Kelly picked off a pass and snapped it past Brkin to tie the game at 3-3 at the 8:50 mark.

That score held for the rest of the period, sending the game to overtime. The teams traded chances early on, but the ICE capitalized on their second opportunity. Baer collected a puck deep in the zone, made a move around Kelly, and froze Meger to net the game-winning goal.

Meger made 13 saves in relief for the Raiders. Brkin stopped 27 Raider shots in the ICE's win.

The Raiders continue their Central Division road trip on Friday night when they head to the Scotiabank Saddledome to take on the Calgary Hitmen (7-14-3-1). Game time is at 8 p.m.

The next game at the Art Hauser Centre is Wednesday night when the Raiders host the Medicine Hat Tigers. Also, the Raiders are hosting their annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by Canadian Tire on Friday, December 8 against Dylan Ferguson and the Kamloops Blazers. Puck drop for both games is at 7 p.m.
