Scrap Yard Dawgs News Release

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS - Scrap Yard Dawgs General Manager Connie May announced today the addition of Rachel Lawson from the University of Kentucky and Kara Dill from LSU to the Dawgs 2016 Coaching Staff. Coaches Lawson and Dill will come on board as Assistant Coaches along with Co-Head Coaches Tripp MacKay and Jav Vela for the Dawgs inaugural season.

Rachel Lawson, from Denver, Colorado, is currently in her eighth season as the Head Coach of the Kentucky Wildcats and is now the winningest coach in program history. She has lead Kentucky to three NCAA Super Regionals in the last four seasons, a program-best 50 wins in 2014, and its first-ever appearance in the Women's College World Series in 2014. With Lawson at the helm during the Wildcat's record win season in 2014 they also set single-season records in at-bats, runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBI's, total bases, walks, fielding percentage, putouts, lowest ERA and strikeouts. Three years prior in 2011, Lawson's Wildcats shattered 12 single-season UK records including home runs (65), RBI's (275), and batting average (.275).

Coach Lawson serves as the pitching coach as well as the Head Coach for the Wildcats and has guided three different pitchers to throw no-hitters against top-25 teams in the the last three seasons alone. Kentucky has 12 no-hitters in program history, all of which have come under Lawson's tenure, including two perfect games. In 2012, she helped pitcher Chanda Bell become the first player in school history to record 200-plus strikeouts in all four of her seasons. Pitcher and infielder Rachel Riley also excelled under Lawson, ranking top 10 in school history in fielding percentage and nearly every pitching category.

Also joining the Dawgs coaching staff for 2016 will be Kara Dill from LaGrange, Ohio. Dill is currently in her second season as a volunteer assistant coach at LSU where she works mainly with slappers. In her first season in 2015, she led the talented group of Tigers to a great season at the plate including Bailey Landry who led the team with a .421 batting average and 89 hits. Under Dill's tutelage last season, LSU slappers accounted 216 of the teams 565 total hits.

Prior to her time at LSU, Dill had five years at Kentucky as both a player and volunteer assistant coach. By the time she ended her athletic career as a Wildcat, she finished eight in hits with 201, sixth in stolen bases with 57, fifth in bating average at .330 and seventh in runs scored with 119 to go along with two All-SEC selections. Dill was also named to the Frank G. Ham Society of Character, which annually honors Kentucky Wildcats who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model.

When asked, Scrap Yard Dawgs GM Connie May said "Lawson and Dill solidify our coaching staff and give us unparalleled experience and knowledge to guide the Dawgs to be one of the most competitive teams in the league." The Scrap Yard Dawgs will kick off their inaugural season on June 2nd against the Chicago Bandits in Rosemont, IL.
