AKRON, OH- Akron Racers draftees continue to rack up collegiate conference awards. The third overall selection and the first pick by the Akron Racers in April, Jailyn Ford is the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. The announcement marked the third straight year that Ford earned that distinction.

Ford's honor came on the same day that fellow Racers draft selections, Sami Fagan and Alex Hugo were announced as All-SEC honorees.

As a pitcher and first baseman for James Madison University, Ford, excelled in the circle, at the plate and in the field in 2016 while starting every game this season. Ford enters the postseason as the Dukes' leader with 11 home runs, two triples, 87 total bases, a .713 slugging percentage, 42 walks, a .509 on-base percentage and 16 stolen bases. Ford also currently sits second on the team in runs scored (37), RBI (30) and batting average (.336).

Ford also leads the CAA in walks and on-base percentage, She is in the top 10 in slugging percentage (second), home runs (third), triples (fifth), runs scored (sixth) and stolen bases (seventh).

In the circle, Ford has been equally impressive. For James Madison, Ford currently sits second in wins with 15, complete games with 11, innings pitched with 123.2, ERA with 1.02, opponents' batting average at .155 and strikeouts with 143. The pitcher Ford sits behind in each of those categories is the CAA Pitcher of the Year, sophomore Megan Good.

Good and Ford rank first and second in the conference, respectively, in ERA and opponents' batting average. Ford is also in the top 10 in wins (fourth), complete games (seventh), and innings pitched (10th) and strikeouts (third).

Ford is the James Madison career record holder with 402 total bases, 123 walks, and 46 home runs. She is tied with teammate Erica Field for the most RBI with 152. Ford also holds career pitching records for most wins (79), appearances (131) starts (102) and complete games with 67, innings pitched with 680.0 and strikeouts with 777.

The Dukes enter the CAA Tournament as the top seed and host and open up play against Delaware Wednesday, May 11.

The Akron Racers get their 15th Season of Play underway May 31 in York, Pennsylvania against the Pennsylvania Rebellion for a two-game series. Akron welcomes the Rebellion to Firestone Stadium on June 8 to kick off a seven-game in eight-day home stand.
