R-Phils Open Exhilirating Homestand Friday

(Reading, PA) - The 2010 season, presented by Pepsi, continues when the Reading Phillies open a six-game homestand with the Akron Aeros on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Exciting fireworks shows, concerts, a SPAM carving contest, and a huge Mother's Day celebration headline the weekend fun at America's Classic Ballpark.

Tickets for all upcoming R-Phils games are available and can be purchased by phone at 610-375-8469, in-person at FirstEnergy Stadium, or online at readingphillies.com. Standing room only tickets remain for Friday's opener.

On Friday, May 7, the R-Phils open a three-game set with the Eastern League defending Champion Akron Aeros, who make their first of two trips to Reading this season. Fans will want to arrive to FirstEnergy Stadium early on Friday evening, as the Classic Café gates will open at 5:00 p.m., as fans can enjoy the sounds of Bunchafunk, featuring Reggie Brown from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. While enjoying some great tunes in the Classic Café, fans can enjoy a Happy Hour, with $1.00 off select beers from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

As part of the exciting festivities on Friday evening, the R-Phils will have another great 4 for $48 Family Night planned, courtesy of Capital BlueCross. Fans can get four yellow box seat tickets (based on availability), four sodas, four hot dogs, for just $48, with additional tickets, including the hot dog and soda, available for $12 each. Fans will also get the chance to play catch on the field, as part of this great offer.

Fireworks are also back, as the R-Phils have another great fireworks show, presented by All-Star Distributing/Coors Light. The post-game fireworks show will be followed by a post-game concert from Bunchafunk, featuring Reggie Brown, as they will return for another great performance.

The jam-packed series continues on Saturday, as the R-Phils host the Akron Aeros in game two of their three-game set, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. Once again fans can expect to enjoy some great music in the Classic Café, as the R-Phils Mascot Band, presented by National Penn Bank, will take the stage at 4:00 p.m. Classic Café gates open at 4:00 p.m, and the concert is set for 90 minutes, with a Happy Hour planned from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The R-Phils Mascot Band, which features Quack the Rubber Ducky on lead vocals and guitar, Bucky the Beaver on bass, Blooper the Hound Dog on the keyboard, Change-Up the Turtle on percussion, and Screwball on drums, usually plays some reggae and hip hop music, mixed with hard driving rock-n-roll music during each of their performances

Also on Saturday evening, the R-Phils will again host a SPAM Carving contest, courtesy of Rock Hits Y102, with all proceeds going to the Opportunity House. There will be prizes for the top five finalists, a grand prize of $250 for first place, and proceeds of the entire contest benefit the Opportunity House. Rib Fest at the Pool returns, as the R-Phils offer any fan the chance to enjoy mouth-watering ribs at the Reading Eagle Pool Picnic Area for just $18.00 per person on Saturday night. The 2 1/2 hour All-You-Can-Eat Buffet at the Reading Eagle Pool Pavilion features ribs, hot dogs, mac and cheese, potato salad, baked beans, lemonade, iced tea and Pepsi products. The pool will be open for use as well.

After the game on Saturday evening, fans will want to stick around for another great fireworks show, courtesy of UGI Utilities. The R-Phils light up the sky like no other team, and will do for the second-time over the weekend. After the post-game fireworks show, head over to the Classic Cafe for some live music from Grammy Award-Winning guitarist David Cullen.

The exciting three-game set concludes with game three on Sunday at 1:05 p.m, as the R-Phils and Akron Aeros will battle it out on Mother's Day. There's no better place to celebrate Mother's Day than right here at FirstEnergy Stadium with the R-Phils. The first 2,000 women 18 and over will receive an R-Phils PINK replica jersey t-shirt. It's Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and the t-shirt will also feature the Breast Cancer ribbon.

In addition, the R-Phils players will wear special Pink Game Jerseys that will be raffled and auctioned off to Benefit the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, thanks to 830 AM WEEU & 69 News Berks Edition. As a special mother's Day treat, all Redner's R-Phils Kids Club members can introduce their mom on the field in a special pre-game ceremony, and all picnic buffet tickets are $2 OFF for Redner's R-Phils Kids Club and Genesis HealthCare R-Phils Senior Club Members, presented by Genesis HealthCare Assisted Livings.

Fans can also enjoy Dollar Dogs on Sunday, courtesy of Berks Packing and Stroehmann's. And, as with every Sunday home game, all fans can take part in a Post-Game Run the Bases, courtesy of 69 New Berks Edition.

The six-game homestand rolls along on Monday, May 10, as the R-Phils welcome Kyle Drabek and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to FirstEnergy Stadium for a three-game series. Monday's contest begins at 6:35 p.m, with all gates opening at 5:30 p.m. The first 500 adults who enter the park will receive an R-Phils All-Decade Team Photo of second baseman Joey Hammond, courtesy of All State Insurance/Gerald Cassidy.

Monday's game will feature a Celebration of Science, with a chance to receieve a free ticket. All students that register for our brand new R-Phils Science Club will receive a free ticket to Science Night, and will be invited to compete in the Self-Propelled Vehicle Contest and/or the Paper Airplane Launch Challenge. As part of Science Night, the R-Phils have an on-field self-propelled vehicle contest and paper airplane launch challenge planned for all R-Phils Science Club members.

The final two games on the six-game homestand will feature two exciting Education Days, as the R-Phils have planned both 11:05 a.m. contests around education. On both Tuesday, May 11, and Wednesday, May 12, the first 3,000 kids who enter FirstEnergy Stadium will receive an R-Phils 2010 Team Photo, courtesy of Inhalant Abuse Awareness, presented by the Alliance for Consumer Education. Kids will want to make their way out early, as the R-Phils also have a fun pre-game academic challenge planned.
