North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Kevin Quick has been loaned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL). In a separate transaction, the Stingrays claimed defenseman Nick Kuqali off waivers from the Orlando Solar Bears.
Quick, 24, skated in 52 games with the Stingrays scoring one goal and 12 assists for 13 points. Last season, the Buffalo, New York, native helped the Florida Everblades (ECHL) capture their first Kelly Cup Championship last season appearing in 34 regular-season contests earning 10 assists and 16 postseason games netting a goal and three assists for four points. A third-round (78th overall) draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2006, Quick appeared in 173 games over three seasons with their AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, registering 34 points (one goal, 33 assists). On January 13, 2009, he made his NHL debut with the Lightning and skated in six total contests earning one assist.
Kuqali, 27, dressed in three games with the Solar Bears adding no points. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native started the season with the Mississippi Surge of the Southern Professional Hockey League totaling nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 29 games.
The Stingrays open a three-game road trip against the Solar Bears tonight, Friday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida and return to the Coliseum on Friday, February 22 for the Dog Days of Winter against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. Bring your dog to the game!
