Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - The Dunedin Blue Jays (2-1) fell to the Clearwater Threshers (1-2) by a 9-5 count on Saturday night for their first loss of the season. Clearwater manufactured three innings in which they scored multiple runs on multiple extra-base hits.
In the top of the first, the Threshers started things off with a 2B Scott Kingery double followed by a SS Drew Stankiewicz triple off of Jays' starter LHP Ryan Borucki (L, 0-1). Each batter would duplicate their efforts later on in the game with another double and triple respectively.
The Jays bounced right back in the bottom of the first with three runs of their own. The first four hitters to bat recorded base hits off RHP Ranfi Casimiro (W, 1-0). The righty settled down after the inning, however, allowing a single base hit to go along with seven strikeouts over the next four innings of work.
Down a run, the Threshers capitalized on a pair of fourth inning home runs from DH Kyle Martin and 1B Zach Green to put them up 6-3. Green added a 2-RBI double in the fifth to extend the lead to six. He finished the game a triple shy of the cycle.
Both bullpens combined to strike out 17 batter over 8.2 innings. In total, 25 hitters went down on strikes.
LF Jonathan Davis launched his first home run of 2016 in the sixth inning.
Sunday is a 1:00 matinee at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium. RHP Justin Shafer (0-0, 0.00) gets the nod for the Jays. It will be LHP Elniery Garcia (0-0, 0.00) going for Clearwater. All kids 12 and under get in free on Sundays with a paying adult. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
