Quenneville Ties IceRays Record In 5-2 Win Over Brahmas

Justin Quenneville had two assists to tie the Corpus Christi IceRays franchise record for points in a 5-2 win over the Texas Brahmas on Thursday night at the American Bank Center. Five different IceRays scored as Corpus Christi ran their season-long home winning streak to five games. The IceRays improved to 26-22-7 on the season, and moved six points ahead of the Killer Bees for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference with a game in hand. They also remained within six points of the Laredo Bucks for the number three spot in the Southern Conference, and within four points with a game in hand over the Brahmas. The IceRays will hit the road on Friday to face the Odessa Jackalopes at 7:05pm. That game can be heard in South Texas on ESPN 1230AM. The on Sunday, the IceRays will return to the American Bank Center for a 3:00pm game, hosting the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Citgo Night. The IceRays will wear and then auction off their red jerseys to fans following the game. There will also be post-game public skating available for fans in attendance. The IceRays struck first to take a 1-0 lead in the first. After great chances at both ends, IceRays forward Adam Powell broke the scoreless tie at 13:58 with a gorgeous backhand goal, that he roofed over Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger. The IceRays outshot the Brahmas 11-10 in an evenly played period, and took a one-goal lead into the second period.

Corpus Christi added to their lead at 1:13 of the second when Kurtis Dulle scored his first IceRays goal from the slot to make it 2-0. The Brahmas cut the lead in half on a Kevin Seibel power play goal at 4:27. The IceRays got back in front by a pair when Quenneville set up Chad Woollard in the slot for Woollard's CHL-leading 37th goal of the season at 11:29.

The Brahmas again got within a goal on a Matt Pierce goal from the top of the slot at 11:48 of the third to make it 3-2 IceRays. But Corpus Christi came right back at the 14:00 mark when Woollard hit Chad Costello on a breakaway for a highlight reel deke on Jaeger to give the Rays a 4-2 lead. Ryan Garbutt added a shorthanded, empty net goal in the final minute at 19:19 to complete the scoring in the IceRays win.

Kevin Beech (15-6-3) earned the win, making 32 saves on 34 shots. Brett Jaeger (18-13-1) took the loss making 29 saves on 33 shots. The IceRays power play went 0-5 and the Brahmas went 1-4. The IceRays and the Brahmas each had 34 shots in the game.
