Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - There was no ninth-inning magic on Thursday night for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, as the Lancaster JetHawks salvaged the final game of the three-game series with a 7-3 win at LoanMart Field.

Four different Lancaster players had multi-hit games, as the JetHawks pounded out 13 hits and ended Rancho's four-game winning streak.

Quakes' starter Josh Sborz struggled through his toughest outing of the year, as he allowed single runs in the first three innings, then gave up a pair of runs in the sixth inning before being chased.

Lancaster got on the board in the first with a Drew Ferguson homer, his first of the year to make it 1-0.

The JetHawks got another in the second, as Jamie Ritchie doubled off the center-field wall, then scored on a Brian Muniz single, making it 2-0.

Sborz gave up another in the third, as Bobby Boyd singled and later scored on a Nick Tanielu RBI groundout, giving the JetHawks a 3-0 cushion.

The Quakes finally answered in the last of the fourth against Lancaster starter Scott Weathersby (1-3).  Joey Curletta's sac fly scored Alex Guerrero to put the Quakes on the board at 3-1. Two batters later, Mike Ahmed tripled home Matt Beaty to make it a one-run game at 3-2.

That's as close as the Quakes would get though, as Lancaster chased Sborz (3-2) with two in the sixth, making it a 5-2 game.

The two teams traded runs in the eighth, with Guerrero scoring in the bottom of the eighth on a sac fly by Garrett Kennedy, making it 6-3.

The JetHawks put it away in the ninth, scoring a run off Karch Kowalcyzk to take a commanding 7-3 lead.

Eric Peterson pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the year, helping to end Lancaster's three-game losing streak.

Guerrero finished with two hits and two runs scored in his third game on his rehab assignment.

Tim Locastro finished 0-for-4, as his team-high 14-game hitting streak came to an end.

Despite the loss, Rancho (23-11) remains in first place, one game up on High Desert in the South Division.

Andrew Sopko (3-0) will go to the mound for Rancho on Friday night, as they open a seven-game road trip, with game one of a four-game set in San Bernardino. The 66ers will send Jason Hoppe (0-0) to the hill in the opening game, with first pitch slated for 7:05pm.

The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Friday, May 20th, as 1,500 fans will take home a Corey Seager Bobblehead, thanks to Allstar KIA. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
