Quakes Take Three Of Four With 4-3 Win

June 7, 2010 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes held on for a 6-4 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Sunday evening at The Epicenter, giving them three wins in the four-game series.

Tyler Chatwood (7-2) fired seven strong innings, while Luis Jimenez keyed the offense with three hits and an incredible hustle-play.

Albert Cartwright's first-inning solo shot would be the only run that Chatwood would allow, as the JetHawks took an early 1-0 advantage.

The Quakes got on the board against Lancaster starter Ross Seaton (2-7) in the second, as Jon Townsend's two-run single made it a 2-1 game.

The Quakes added a run in the fifth, as Gabe Jacobo's sac fly scored Rian Kiniry, giving Rancho Cucamonga a 3-1 lead.

Arguably the most exciting play of the year took place in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Luis Jimenez aboard at second base, Angel Castillo lifted a deep fly ball to the warning track in center field. Lancaster center fielder Jay Austin made the catch at the warning track, but only lobbed it in to the infield. Jimenez raced for third and didn't stop there, continuing to the plate and scoring ahead of Brandon Wikoff's throw, making it a 4-1 game.

Rian Kiniry scored from third, when Tyson Auer banged into a double-play in the seventh, putting the Quakes up 5-1.

Lancaster got a run in the eighth off Steven Geltz, as Freddy Parejo's two-out RBI single brought home Cartwright, making it 5-2.

The Quakes got that run back in the bottom of the inning though, as Castillo drove in his second run of the game, bringing home Jimenez with an RBI single, giving the Quakes a four-run lead at 6-2.

Austin connected for a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth off Geltz, bringing the JetHawks to within two at 6-4. Eddie McKiernan was called out of the bullpen and after walking Cartwright, got Brandon Barnes to pop up to end the game, securing his ninth save of the year.

The Quakes (32-25) remain six back of first-place Lake Elsinore in the South Division. The High Desert Mavericks welcome the Quakes to Adelanto on Monday night, as the two clubs open a four-game set at Mavericks Stadium. Pil Joon Jang (1-0) goes for the Quakes, while the Mavs will send right-hander Maikel Cleto (1-0) to the mound at 7:05pm.

The Quakes return from their upcoming seven-game road trip on Monday, June 14th, opening a six-game home stand. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
