Quakes' Rally Falls Short in Lancaster

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - The Lancaster JetHawks got out to a huge lead and then hung on late, as the Quakes' rally fell a run shy in an 8-7 loss to Lancaster on Saturday night at The Hangar.
Despite swatting three homers and a four-RBI night from C.J. Retherford, the Quakes dropped their fourth game on the six-game road trip, as they'll return to Rancho on Sunday to open a series against High Desert.
Rancho took an early 2-0 lead, as Retherford went opposite-field for his team-leading 18th long-ball of the year.
Quakes' starter Angel Sanchez (6-4) struggled mightily on Saturday night, allowing three in the first, two in the second and three more in the third, as Lancaster took a commanding 8-2 advantage.
Chris Jacobs launched a solo shot in the fourth and Joc Pederson connected for a solo blast in the sixth against JetHawks' starter Zach Grimmett (3-5), as the Quakes pulled to within four at 8-4.
Retherford capped a three-hit game with a two-run double in the seventh against Kirk Clark, chasing home both Leon Landry and Mark Ellis, who went 0-for-4 in his first game of a big-league rehab assignment, making it 8-6.
A Landry RBI single made it a one-run game in the eighth, but that's as close as the Quakes would come. Andrew Robinson worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save of the year, giving the JetHawks two of three in the series.
On Sunday, the Quakes return to The Epicenter for a Valencia Commons Dodgers' Fun in the Sunday, featuring former Dodger great "Sweet" Lou Johnson. The Quakes are scheduled to start JonMichael Redding (5-1) on Sunday, while High Desert should throw Angel Raga (3-2) in the opening game of the series. Game time is 5:05pm and gates open at 4:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
