Bakersfield, CA- Joey Curletta's three-run triple snapped a 1-1 tie in the third inning, as the Quakes held on for a 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Tuesday night.
Rancho avoided their first three-game losing streak of the year, as they improved their road record to an amazing 16-5 with a win at Bakersfield's Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Curletta delivered a tie-breaking triple in the third, scoring three runs to give the Quakes the lead for good against Blaze starter Lukas Schiraldi (0-1).
Quakes' starter Grant Holmes was solid on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings, picking up the win.
The Rancho bullpen was tested on Tuesday, as Philip Pfeifer and Joe Broussard combined for three scoreless innings of relief, but combined to strand seven over three innings. The Blaze left a total of 13 men on the night. Broussard notched his first save of the year with 1 1/3 innings of relief.
The Quakes (30-16) remain in first place in the South Division with the win. Rancho will send Felipe Gonzalez (0-1) to the mound on Wednesday in game two of the series, while Bakersfield will counter with Anthony Misiewicz (1-4), with game time scheduled for 7:30pm.
The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, June 1st, as they host the Lake Elsinore Storm in the first game of a seven-game home stand. June 1st is another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as four-legged friends are welcome at LoanMart Field with the purchase of a $3 Pet Pass.
