Kuo Hui Lo then grounded a ball to Romine again at short, this time, he converted the double play to end the inning with the score 1-0.

The Quakes failed to score in the first two innings, but got to Mavericks starter JC Ramirez in the 3rd. With PJ Phillips at third and Clay Fuller at first, Rancho tried a double steal, but Phillips was caught between third and home and Fuller advanced to second. Romine came to the plate and walked and Fuller advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hector Estrella followed with an RBI single to right to tie the game. With Matt Sweeney at the plate, Romine and Estrella executed a double steal give Rancho a 2-1 lead. Sweeney then roped a double to right to score Estrella to lead 3-1.

The Mavericks came back to tie in the 4th as Lo doubled and stole third with one out, and Travis Scott and Juan Diaz walked to load the bases. After Alexander Torres struck out Carlos Peguero, Ian Bladergroen singled to center to score two runs and tie the game 3-3.

The Quakes answered in the bottom of the 4th with two outs as Brain Walker singled, PJ Phillips doubled and Clay Fuller singled to score Walker to put the Rancho in front 4-3.
