Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Modesto, CA- The Quakes blew an early five-run lead on Wednesday night and fell in game two of the series to the Modesto Nuts, 7-6. The Nuts seemed to have figured out the Quakes' staff as Modesto banged out seven runs on 14 hits for the second straight night.

After the Nuts hit around Quakes' starter Dean Kremer last night, the theme continued on Wednesday night as Rancho starter Adam Bray had his worst appearance of the season. Bray was beat around for six runs on 10 hits in five innings while striking out four and walking one, but he had early run support from his offense.

The Quakes scored two runs in the first inning on an Omar Estevez two-run double and then scored three more in the second. Zach McKinstry knocked in Ibandel Isabel when he bounced into a fielder's choice and then Yusniel Diaz rocketed a two-run double to give the Quakes a 5-0 lead.

It did not last long as the Nuts scored four runs off of Bray in the bottom of the second and two more on a home run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead over the Quakes.

In the top of the sixth, the Quakes tied the game on a safety squeeze by McKinstry that scored Brandon Montgomery, but the Nuts scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI triple by Jay Baum.

In the top of the ninth, the Quakes received a two-out triple from DJ Peters, just to have the comeback fall short as Luke Raley grounded out to second to end it.

Andrew Istler (2-3) was handed the loss after yielding the run in the eighth for Rancho Cucamonga (26-21) while Matt Walker (3-0) picked up the win by throwing a scoreless pair of frames for Modesto (27-20).

The Quakes will be back in action Thursday, May 25, against the Modesto Nuts for game three at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Ryan Moseley (0-1) will get the start for the Quakes while the Nuts will counter with righty Reggie McClain (6-2).

The Quakes will be back home on Friday against the Stockton Ports for game one a four-game set. It will be Smile Generation Corey Seager Bobblehead Giveaway Night. 1,500 fans will receive a Corey Seager 2016 National League Rookie of the Year Bobblehead, thanks to Smile Generation. Tickets are available at 909-481-5000 or rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
