Quakes Blown out in Adelanto, Lose Ninth Straight to High Desert

Adelanto, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were blown out by the High Desert Mavericks, losing 13-5 on Friday night at Heritage Field in Adelanto.

Rancho has now lost nine straight games to the Mavs, including dropping three-of-five so far on the seven-game road trip.

The Mavs scored nine runs in a marathon fifth inning. Jose Trevino and Dylan Moore each clubbed three-run home runs, and Josh Morgan added a two run double. Elio Castillo followed with an RBI single to cap off the nine-run frame.

High Desert also scored three runs in the second inning. Jairo Beras hit an RBI double, and Castillo and Michael De Leon added RBI singles.

The Quakes offense consisted of five fourth-inning runs. Johan Mieses blasted a three-run home run, his team-leading 21st, while Garrett Kennedy notched an RBI triple. Devan Ahart brought Kennedy home on a sac fly to round out the scoring for Rancho Cucamonga.

Matt Milroy (2-0) earned the win for High Desert, He pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Mavs starter Jeff Springs failed to make it through the fourth inning, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Tommy Bergjans (2-12) was hit with the loss for the Quakes. He allowed nine earned runs on eight hits in four innings. Six of Bergjans' 12 losses have come against High Desert. David Reid-Foley took over for Bergjans and allowed four earned runs on three hits in one inning of work.

Quakes backup catcher, Spencer Navin, pitched the bottom of the eighth inning. He allowed a hit, but pitched a scoreless inning, including getting an inning-ending double play.

The Quakes (21-21, 63-48) will continue their four-game series with the Mavs with game three on Saturday night. Rancho will send lefty Michael Boyle (0-1, 3.00 ERA) to the mound, while the Mavs will counter with right-hander Cody Palmquist (3-1, 1.87 ERA). First pitch from game two in Adelanto will be 7:05 p.m.
