QMJHL Ultramar Player of the Week: Alex Barré-Boulet

December 13, 2017 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Boucherville, Que. - The Ultramar Player of the Week is forward Alex Barré-Boulet (Armada | Blainville-Boisbriand) who dominated the Q by collecting eight points in only two games played.

The veteran put together some well-balanced efforts to rack up his points as he scored two goals and registered two assists in both games he played last week.

Thanks to his latest efforts, Barré-Boulet now leads the QMJHL's scoring race with 22 goals and 23 assists for a total of 45 points in 25 games played this season.

Last Friday, the Montmagny native was named the first star of the game as his four points led the Armada to a 6-1 win over the Charlottetown Islanders.

Two days later, Barré-Boulet amassed the same point total and collected the same honors but did it in brilliant fashion when his team topped Drummondville 5-4. He first tied the game at 4-4 by scoring with just 67 seconds left on the game's clock, before becoming the game's hero by netting the game-winner in overtime.

By scoring what was his 9th game-winning goal of the year, Barré-Boulet has already tied the Armada's franchise record for most game-winning goals in a season. He also tied another franchise record in the process by picking up a point in an 18th consecutive game.

Other players considered for the Ultramar Player of the Week honors were goaltender Derek Baribeau (Remparts | Québec) et rookie phenom Alexis Lafreni-re (Océanic | Rimouski).

Baribeau ended his week with one regulation win and two shootout losses despite putting up an impressive .957% save percentage and a 1.25 goals-against average. He was selected as one of the game's three stars in each of his three outings.

As for Lafreni-re he scored twice and picked up four helpers over the four games he played last week. In a 6-4 win over Shawinigan on Saturday, the 16-year-old ended the game with four points. It was already his 10th game of two points or more in his very first season in the QMJHL.
