Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League in association with the three regional leagues, the Halifax Mooseheads Hockey Club, and Home Hardware Stores Limited, have announced the 40 CHL players that include two members of the Brandon Wheat Kings that will compete in the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game at the Halifax Metro Centre on January 16, 2013.

The 40 CHL players competing in the game were chosen by the 30 NHL clubs then divided into teams by NHL Central Scouting and include 14 players from the Ontario Hockey League, 14 players from the Western Hockey League, and 12 players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Representing the Wheat Kings' at the annual event will be defencemen Eric Roy and Ryan Pulock.

An 18-year old native of Grandview, Manitoba, Pulock is expected to be a first round selection in June's NHL Entry Draft. A former seventh round pick of the Wheat Kings in the 2009 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Pulock is in his third season with the club and his first as captain.

Entering Friday night's game against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors, Pulock is second on the team in scoring with ten goals and 28 points in 27 games. His 28 points leave him tied with Portland's Seth Jones and Morgan Reilly of the Moose Jaw Warriors for third place in scoring among WHL blueliners. As well, the 6'1" 205 lb. Pulock leads the Wheat Kings with an impressive +11 plus / minus rating.

In 162 career games with the Wheat Kings, the former Parkland AAA Midget Ranger has 131 points, including 37 goals.

A former first round selection (18th overall) in 2009, Roy is one of only two Wheat Kings to dress for all 33 regular season games this season. The 6'3" 190 lb Beauval, Saskatchewan product has six goals and 19 points this season.

Roy, who finished among the league's top scoring defencemen last season with eleven goals and 53 points currently has 21 goals and 91 points in 151 career WHL games.

Pulock is one of two Manitobans and fourteen Western Leaguers invited. The other is Winnipeg's Madison Bowey of the Kelowna Rockets.

This marks the first time in two years that the Wheat Kings will be represented at the Top Prospects Game. Former Brandon goalkeeper Liam Liston attended the 2011 game. The last time that the Wheat Kings had two players attend was in 2009 when linemates Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie made the trip. Five months later, Schenn and Glennie went 5th and 8th overall to Los Angeles and Dallas respectively in the NHL Entry Draft.

27 of the CHL's 60 member clubs are represented in this game featuring three players on the host Mooseheads including Team Cherry captain Nathan MacKinnon alongside Jonathan Drouin, and goaltender Zachary Fucale. Team Orr captain Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks will also be joined by a pair of teammates including forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand and Nicolas Petan. The London Knights and Quebec Remparts also have a trio of players competing on Team Orr with forwards Max Domi, Bo Horvat, and defenceman Nikita Zadorov representing the Knights, while forwards Anthony Duclair, Adam Erne, and Nick Sorensen represent the Remparts.
