Providence Bruins News Release

Rochester, NY - The Providence Bruins defeated the Rochester Americans tonight in Rochester, NY by a final score of 6-4. Six different players scored for Providence, with goals from Grant, Blidh, Cehlarik, Cave, Bartkowski and Mueller. Anton Khudobin, in his third straight start for the P-Bruins, registered 20 saves in the win.

Rochester found themselves with a power play opportunity early in the game when P-Bruins forward Jordan Szwarz was whistled for High-Sticking just 58 seconds into the period. Just seconds into the man-advantage, Rochester winger Justin Bailey beat Bruins goaltender Anton Khudobin for his seventh score of the season. The goal was assisted by Mike Aviani and Alexander Nylander, and put the Americans ahead 1-0. Providence didn't wait long to respond. Exactly two minutes later forward Colby Cave scored his third of the season, assisted by Anton Blidh and Wayne Simpson, to tie the game at 1-1. The rapid scoring pace for each team would settle after that, seeing Rochester successfully kill off a Hooking penalty to defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer midway through the period. The next would not be as successful however, as the P-Bruins took advantage of their second power play opportunity late in the period. Rochester's Peter Geiger was sent off for Cross-checking at 17:22 to give Providence a man-advantage. 37 seconds into the power play defenseman Matt Bartkowski found the back of the net for Providence, giving the P-Bruins a 2-1 lead. The goal was Bartkowski's second of the season, assisted by Wayne Simpson and Tommy Cross, and closed the scoring for the period with Providence leading 2-1.

The second period would continue the frantic scoring pace that started the game, with a combined six goals scored between the two teams. Providence would score four unanswered goals to begin the period, kicking things off with a goal from Peter Cehlarik. It was Cehlarik's seventh of the season, assisted by Jordan Szwarz and Jake DeBrusk, and increased the lead to 3-1. Anton Blidh made it 4-1 roughly five minutes later, beating Rochester goalie Linus Ullmark for his fifth of the season on assists by Simpson and Porter. Defenseman Alex Grant got in on the scoring next, finding the back of the net for an unassisted goal, his fifth of the season, to give Providence a 5-1 lead. The goal chased goaltender Linus Ullmark, who was replaced by John Muse for the Americans. Ullmark finished with 15 saves on the night. The change in goal wouldn't stop the scoring for long, however, as Peter Mueller scored at 10:30 in the period to increase the Providence lead to 6-1. The score was Mueller's fourth of the season, assisted by Colton Hargrove and Chris Porter. Rochester, now facing a five goal deficit, began to get back in the game just 27 seconds later. Americans' forward Kyle Bonis beat Khudobin for his first goal of the season, assisted by Cornel and Bennett, to cut the lead to 6-2. Later in the period Rochester inched even closer with a power play goal from Nick Baptiste. The score, assisted by Nelson and Aviani, closed out the scoring for both teams and the period ended with a 6-3 P-Bruins lead.

Rochester continued to try to cut into the deficit in the third, despite being out shot by Providence in the period. The Americans successfully killed a Hooking penalty on Justin Vaive at 4:04 to keep the score at 6-3, and soon found themselves with their own power play opportunity. At 8:21, after a penalty on Anton Blidh, Rochester's Nick Baptiste tallied his second of the game and eighth of the season to make the score 6-4. The power play goal was assisted by Alexander Nylander and Justin Bailey. The comeback would end there for Rochester, however, as Providence stood strong in the defensive zone and held on for the remainder of the game for a 6-4 victory. Providence finished the game with 32 shots to Rochester's 24.
