Peterborough Petes News Release
(Peterborough, ON) - For the second straight year, the Petes and local community partners collected food and donations for Kawartha Food Share through the Project Shutout Hunger initiative. Through the 2015/16 Coach4Food campaign, the Petes set a team record with 3,873.25 lbs of food donated.
Minor hockey teams collected food within the community throughout the campaign. The top three teams were the Novice AAA (967.7 lbs), Minor Atom AAA (645.7 lbs), and Minor Midget AAA (105.7 lbs) Petes, respectively. Representatives from each of these teams were invited to be recognized on the ice at the game on Sunday, January 31 against Kingston.
Aside from minor hockey food collection, donations were made to Kawartha Food Share through the Boston Pizza celebrity servers event (516.75 lbs) in January and with bins set up at rinks throughout Peterborough.
Coach4Food coordinates the Project Shutout Hunger initiative, which is a partnership spearheaded by the Ontario Hockey League involving the Ontario Association of Food Banks, Gift of Giving Back, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The goal is to eradicate hunger in communities across the OHL.
On the ice, the Petes host the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday for the annual TalkToday game before Ottawa comes to town for Pink In the Rink in two key East division match-ups.
