Professional Arena Soccer League Update
December 10, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release
Legends, Mustangs, Flash in First and Undefeated
12/10/13 - Each of the three divisions in the PASL has an undefeated leader as we hit the approximate one third mark of the season. The Las Vegas Legends (6-0) and Chicago Mustangs (5-0) won last weekend to keep their streaks intact while the Monterrey Flash (6-0) were idle.
The Flash are an expansion team led by Genoni Martinez and several former Monterrey La Raza players who have taken the Central Division by storm.
The Legends have been shaping their roster into a juggernaut in the Pacific Division. The team added Ivan Campos in the offseason, while newcomers Nicholas Benitez and Aldo Flores have made solid contributions. Then the team made in-season acquisitions of former Mexico Toros sparkplug Alex Caceres, who already has nine points in three games, and just last week they acquired Neto Luna from the Toros.
The overlooked team of the bunch is the Eastern Division's Mustangs. Chicago lost Nestor Hernandez to Dallas and Omar Tapia to Monterrey, but their signings of "Wilo" Martinez (formerly of Rio Grande Valley Flash), Victor Sanchez (Rockford Rampage) and Chico (Milwaukee Wave, Omaha Vipers) have filled the void. Miguel Vaca has provided a lot of offense once again and youngsters Bryan Velazquez (20 years old) Adrian Ortiz (24), and "Pee Wee" Ortega (21) have all taken the next step to becoming major players in the league.
Player of the Week
Miguel Vaca, Chicago Mustangs
Vaca, the quick-footed veteran from Guadalajara, had a sensational game against the Detroit Waza Flo Sunday to keep the Mustangs in first place. Vaca had three goals and two assists. His first half hat trick helped build a 4-1 lead and his two assists helped stave off a Waza rally. Vaca has had 13 multiple-point games in his 16 PASL games, and has only been held without a point one time.

Schedule Takes a Tumble
The Cleveland Freeze were conspicuously absent last week when snow and ice wreaked havoc on the PASL schedule. Friday's US Open game between BH United and the Tulsa Revolution in Tulsa was postponed til December 22 and the Dallas Sidekicks game Saturday in Wichita was put off until January 4.
Sunday Scoring Spree
Sunday's game between Chicago and Detroit featured two of the league's premier teams as well as two of the top goaltenders in Jesus Flores and Joey Kapinos. The 13-9 win by Chicago, however, was the highest scoring game of the season so far with a combined 22 goals. The lowest scoring game so far is the Bay Area Rosal's 5-2 win over the Turlock Express on November 30.
PASL Holiday Slowdown Over
With Saturday's postponement there were only four league games last weekend, the lightest weekend of the season. Break time is over as Thursday's game between the San Diego Sockers and Ontario Fury is the first of 13 games this weekend.
