Professional Arena Soccer League Update

November 6, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Sidekicks, Heat and Rampage Make PASL Debuts

11/6/12 - The Dallas Sidekicks, Harrisburg Heat, and Rockford Rampage, names familiar to most arena soccer fans, all became part of the Professional Arena Soccer League as part of an expansion that saw nine new teams enter the league.

When the Sidekicks defeated the Heat 6-2 at the Allen Event Center in front of a PASL record crowd of 5,909 it was easy to call it an overwhelming success by any measure.

For a young Heat roster playing its first road game, the low scoring game also showed the potential to compete with a veteran lineup.

Rockford opened on the road and successfully debuted to the tune of a 6-1 win over the Ohio Vortex, led by four goals from Bojan Jovicic.

In another auspicious start, the San Diego Sockers played their first game at the Valley View Casino Center (formerly known as the San Diego Sports Arena) and a Sockers PASL record 3,545 saw the Sockers trounce the Sacramento Surge 15-2.

Player of the Week

Jeff Hughes, Cincinnati Kings

Hughes became the youngest coach in PASL history when he returned to the Kings after a year with the MISL's Syracuse Silver Knights and took the reins from Roby Stahl after a disappointing 6-10 season. The 2009/10 PASL MVP's impact was immediately felt as Hughes contributed a hat trick to his first coaching victory en route to a 9-8 win over the Detroit Waza, last year's Eastern Division winner.

Sockers Streaks at 25, 38

San Diego's regular season winning streak stands at 25. San Diego also improved to 25-0 at home during the regular season. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 38 in a row, two short of the US Pro Team Sports record of 40 set by the indoor football Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.

Move Over Ricardinho, Here Comes Ricardinho

The Dallas Sidekicks signed Ricardinho as a free agent from the Baltimore Blast this offseason, but the Las Vegas Legends Ricardo Sobreira also goes by the nickname of Ricardinho. The younger Ricardinho, 23, made a name for himself in his first PASL game by scoring five goals and an assist in an 11-2 win over the Arizona Storm.

Anaheim Bolts Out to 2-0 Start

The Anaheim Bolts returned with an almost entirely new roster this season aside from a handful of key players, but their game in Las Vegas started to follow a familiar script. Anaheim's trouble protecting leads was well-documented last year and Head Coach Bernie Lilavois had to be uneasy after Las Vegas rallied to tie the game at 4-4 after falling behind 4-0 and then rallying again from 9-5 to 9-8. But following a 13-5 win over Sacramento, the Bolts held fast behind new goalkeeper Manubu Kaji, who earned a lot of praise for his play in both games.
