Prince Albert Dispatches Pats 8-2

December 2, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release

First Period

The Pats and Raiders started on even footing with the teams trading chances early. The Pats nearly broke the deadlock twice when Stephen Hak split the D and broke in alone, and when Colten Mayor took off on a clean breakaway. Luke Siemens came up with some big saves and kept the score at zero. The Raiders would reward their goaltender as they tallied two goals in just over a minute. Davis Vandane struck first and Josh Morrissey followed it up as Prince Albert took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Second Period

The second period didn't hold better fortune for the Pats as the Raiders added to their lead just 3:50 into the frame. After some extended pressure, Dakota Conroy got free in front of Matt Hewitt and slipped his tenth of the season by the Pats netminder. After a parade to the penalty box set the teams against each other in a 3-on-3, Morrissey put on an offensive display with a couple of great moves to put Prince Albert ahead 4-0. The Pats got on the board courtesy a powerplay marker when Colten Mayor tipped a Stephen Hak point shot behind Siemens. The Raiders restored the four goal lead off the stick of Carson Perreaux to make it 5-1 after two.

Third Period

The Raiders kept the pedal to the metal in the third period as they tacked on three more goals. Mike Winther opened things up with a snap-shot goal directly off an offensive zone draw. Leon Draisaitl scored on a crazy bouncer that found its way on to the rookie's stick and he managed to get enough on the puck to get it behind Hewitt as he scrambled back into position. Winther would make it eight when he put home a one-timer off Chance Braid's third assist on the evening. The Pats would get one more as Mayor stole the puck at the P.A. blue line and beat Siemens with a quick wrist shot to the top shelf to make the final score 8-2 for the Raiders.
