Pre-Season Recap: Regina Pats (4) vs Swift Current Broncos (1)

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats kicked off the 2018 pre-season with a 4-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Friday night at the Brandt Centre.

Regina opened the scoring at the 6:22 mark of the first when Scott Mahovlich tipped in a point shot on the powerplay. Marco Creta and Sam McGinley drew assists and it was a 1-0 game after 20 minutes. In the second, Sergei Alkhimov extended the Pats lead to 2-0 on a beautiful individual rush at 2:15. The Broncos got one back with less than a minute left in the frame and Regina took a 2-1 lead to the break. In the third, Carter Massier put home a rebound just 56 seconds in and then Austin Pratt scored on a wraparound four minutes later to make it 4-1 and that was the final score.

Marco Creta led the offence with three assists while Sergei Alkhimov picked up a goal and an assist. Matthew Pesenti started the game and stopped 11 of 11 in a half game of work. Carter Woodside took over midway through the second, stopping 11 of 12. Regina went one for five on the powerplay and the penalty kill was six for six.

The Pats will continue the pre-season on Saturday night at the Brandt Centre against the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7 p.m.
