Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Lexington, KY)- The West Virginia Power beat the Lexington Legends by a 5-1 final at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Saturday night. West Virginia used three home runs and a quality start to edge Lexington and clinch the series with one game to go.

Daniel Arribas opened the scoring with a solo home run off Foster Griffin the second inning. Arribas hit a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall for a 1-0 Power edge. The designated hitter has three home runs, all solo shots, this season.

Chase Vallot tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the second, but Mitchell Tolman's first professional home run gave West Virginia a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

That lead stuck as Griffin (0-1) retired 12 straight batters to end his outing. The Power's Logan Sendelbach (1-0) scattered six hits over a quality start while striking out four.

In the top of the eighth, Alfredo Reyes extended the lead with a two-run home run to left off Franco Terrero. It was the shortstop's first home run this season and extended his hitting streak to 10 consecutive games. Following the home run, Terrero threw at Tito Polo twice, clearing the benches and bullpens. Terrero was immediately ejected and Legends manager Omar Ramirez was also tossed from the game during the ensuing argument.

Ke'Bryan Hayes singled in Tolman in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring at 5-1.

The Power have won three straight, clinched their fifth straight series to start the season and are now 7-0 against the Legends this season. West Virginia and Lexington conclude this four game series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 P.M. with Bret Helton making the start for the Power against Corey Ray.
