Power Drops Game after Leading 4-0 in Eighth

(Greenville, SC- April 17, 2013)- The West Virginia Power lost 5-4 to the Greenville Drive on Wednesday evening at Fluor Field. The Power held a 4-0 lead heading into the eighth inning, but the Drive scored five times to take their first lead of the series and avoid a sweep.
The Boston Red Sox sent Franklin Morales to Greenville on Wednesday to make a rehab start. The southpaw was placed on the Red Sox Disabled List on March 31 and was slated to throw 50 pitches or three innings. The Power managed one hit and two walks against the veteran with 175 Major League appearances.
John Kuchno made the start for West Virginia, allowing just two hits over five innings of work. During the three games series, Power starting pitchers tossed a combined 15 and a third scoreless innings.
West Virginia cracked the scoreboard in thefifth inning. With two outs, Max Moroff walked and scored from first on a double by Dilson Herrera for a 1-0 lead. The Power added three runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead. Runs crossed on base hits by Raul Fortunato and Ashley Ponce with a third run scoring on a wild pitch for a 4-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the eighth, Greenville sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring five runs on five walks and three hits. David Jagoditsh walked three of the first four batters he faced. David Chester singled in the first two runs and Drew Turocy doubled one to cut the Power lead down to 4-3. Chester then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After Jagoditsh walked Mike Miller, Pat Ludwig came out of the bullpen and surrendered a base hit to Jayson Hernandez that plated Turocy to give Greenville its first lead of the series at 5-4.
The Power went down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game. Jagoditsh (0-2) took the loss and Kyle Kraus earned the win.
West Virginia returns to Appalachian Power Park on Thursday, April 18, to open a four game homestand against the Hagerstown Suns. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.
