Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV- The West Virginia Power dropped their series opening game against the Charleston RiverDogs by a final of 6-5. The Power started off with three runs in the second inning but faltered late.
Blake Cederlind made a spot start for West Virginia after the Power were forced to play a double header on Sunday. Cederlind only allowed two runs in the third inning. Both Diego Castillo and Estevan Florial came around after Angel Aguilar doubled. This all coming after West Virginia had already scored.
Three runs touched home, beginning with a Clark Eagan double, his second of the year. Carlos Munoz and Kevin Mahala came around for Eagan's fifth and sixth runs batted in of the season. He would later score on an error.
With a 3-2 score early, the Power struck again. In the third, Trae Arbet launched his team leading fourth home run of the year off Charleston starter Adonis Rosa. Arbet's solo shot would be his only hit of the game.
Trailing 4-2, Charleston battled back to tie it in the sixth. Matt Eckelman had taken over for West Virginia and surrendered a two run homer to Isiah Gilliam, his first of the season. The Power regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Logan Ratledge scored on a groundout, but it didn't last long.
With Gilliam at the plate again, the switch-hitter laced a ball into the visiting bullpen in the top of the eighth. Power left fielder Ty Moore raised his arms, signaling the ball was lodged. With the runners continuing, Moore went to play it after a brief hiatus. After it was all said and done, the ball was ruled playable and a triple brought home the decisive two runs. West Virginia went quietly to end the game, a final of 6-5. Eckelman (1-2) was handed the loss while David Sosabee (1-1) earned the win.
The Power welcome back the RiverDogs for a Tuesday night showdown between Luis Escobar (2-0) and Freicer Perez (0-1). It's Two for Tuesday at Appalachian Power Park. Tickets and information are available online or by calling 304-344-BATS.
