Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power fell in both games of Sunday's doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists at Appalachian Power Park. Carlos Munoz and Daniel Arribas hit back-to-back home runs in the Power's 4-2 loss in game one and John Bormann went 2-4 with a double in the team's 6-1 defeat. Both games were shortened to seven inning contests.

Power starter Dario Agrazal (1-2) was removed after the first inning in game one, after the Tourists scored four runs on seven hits in the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead. Asheville sent nine men to the plate in that inning, with Brendan Rodgers, Chris Rabago and Jonathan Piron all picking up RBI singles.

The score remained the same until the seventh inning, when the Power scored their first runs against Tourists starter Jack Wynkoop. After Wynkoop retired the first hitter, Carlos Munoz hit a solo home run to right, his second of the year. The next batter, Daniel Arribas, crushed one over the left field wall for his team-leading fourth home run of the year.

Wynkoop (2-1) allowed two runs and eight hits in six and two thirds innings.

The Power eventually had the tying run at the plate, but were unable to finish out the comeback as Sam Thoele recorded the final out of the game and picked up his first save of the season.

Similarly in game two, the Tourists took an early lead against Power starter Bret Helton. Yhonathan Daza and Hamlet Marte each drove in a run in the first inning to put Asheville up 2-0.

Helton (1-1) pitched five innings, allowing six hits and five runs.

The Power scored their only run in the fourth inning against Asheville starter Peter Lambert. After a John Bormann double, Mitchell Tolman hit a sacrifice fly to put West Virginia on the board and make it 2-1 Tourists.

Lambert scattered four hits and a run over four innings.

Asheville scored two runs in both the fourth and sixth, capped off by a two run home run by Josh Fuentes to put Asheville up 6-1. That would be the final score as the Power were shutout over the final three innings.

Drasen Johnson (1-0) notched his first win of the year, allowing just one hit in his lone inning of work.

West Virginia wraps up the series and home stand on Monday night, as Power starter Mitch Keller will be opposed by Trey Killian for the Tourists. The game is also a Family Buck Night with $1 tickets and concession specials. First pitch is at 7:05 P.M. at Appalachian Power Park.

First Half Record

15-9
