Power Back on Winning Track

Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power beat the Asheville Tourists 7-3 at Appalachian Power Park to break a season high four game losing streak. The Power scored seven runs in the fourth inning, capped off by a grand slam off the bat of Tito Polo.

The Tourist took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Terry McClure off starter Logan Sendelbach.

That lead was short lived, as the Power put up seven runs in the fourth inning, all coming against Asheville starter David Hill. After Ke'Bryan Hayes and Casey Hughston led the inning off with a couple of singles, Daniel Arribas punched another single to left center to score Hayes and tie the game 1-1. Another pair of singles by Tyler Filliben and Alfredo Reyes allowed the Power to take a 3-1 lead. That loaded the bases for Tito Polo who blasted a grand slam into right center and broke the game wide open as the Power took a 7-1 lead. Polo, who was robbed of a home run in his previous at bat on a leaping catch by McClure, launched his second home run of the season and finished the night 2-4. The Power recorded six of their ten hits in that inning.

Hill (2-1) lasted five innings, giving up eight hits and seven runs, all of which came in the fourth inning.

The lead proved plenty for Sendelbach (2-0), who scattered four hits and a run, which was unearned, over six and a third innings. The right hander is the first Power starter to pitch into the seventh inning this year. Sendelbach has not allowed more than two runs in any of his five starts this season.

The Tourists scored a run in both the eighth and ninth innings, but that was all they could muster against relievers Daniel Zamora and Eric Karch, who pitched the final two and a third innings to finish off the victory.

West Virginia sends right-hander Bret Helton to the mound in game two, facing off against Asheville left-hander Jack Wynkoop. The Power will also be hosting their Faith and Family Festival at the ballpark, with a postgame concert featuring KJ-52 and Abandon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 at Appalachian Power Park.
