Possible Scenarios for Thursday's Champions League
February 28, 2017 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - After a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena last week, Vancouver Whitecaps FC host New York Red Bulls on Thursday night in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals (7 p.m. PT at BC Place - tickets still available). Here are the different scenarios that would send Vancouver to the semifinals, keeping in mind it's a two-leg aggregate series and away goals are the tiebreaker.
WHITECAPS FC ADVANCE WITH:
Any win A 0-0 draw
THE MATCH WILL GO TO EXTRA TIME WITH:
A 1-1 draw
In the event of a 1-1 draw, there will be 30 minutes of extra time (two 15-minute halves). The full 30 minutes must be played regardless of any goals scored and the away goals rule is no longer in effect. If the score is still tied at the end of extra time, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.
NEW YORK RED BULLS ADVANCE WITH:
Any win Any draw with at least two away goals (2-2, 3-3, etc...)
