Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Portland Winterhawks' opening weekend couldn't have gone much better, with the team notching matching 7-3 wins over Seattle Saturday and then yesterday against Tri-Cities. The Hawks got scoring from up and down the lineup, with nine different players accounting for the 14 goals, and a total of 16 players picking up at least one point. Among the highlights:

Cody Glass, Ryan Hughes and Evan Weinger lead the team with five points apiece in the two games.

Defenseman Brendan De Jong had two goals in the two games, already more than the one goal he had last season and matching his total from his rookie season in 2014-15.

Sixteen-year-old rookie Ty Kolle had an impressive debut last night with three assists. He was one of seven players to earn their first career point over the weekend, joining Henri Jokiharju, Brad Ginnell, Joachim Blichfeld, Ilijah Colina, Lane Gilliss and even goaltender Cole Kehler.

After two games at the Moda Center this past weekend, the Hawks will be back at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Friday against Everett. The team boasts a number of new looks on the ice, but the Coliseum has a new look above the ice: the new videoboard. Friday's game will mark the unveiling of the new videoboard, with four screens each approximately 16.5 feet wide by 9.5 feet high, with high definition capability.

After Friday's game against Everett, the team will be gone until October 18 as they embark on an eight-game road trip. It starts Saturday in Seattle, then they make a six-game trip through the WHL's East Division, before wrapping up on October 15 in Spokane.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Hawks fans can meet Lane Gilliss, Cole Kehler, Alex Overhardt and Evan Weinger tomorrow when the players visit the Les Schwab in the Hollywood district, located at 2952 NE Sandy Blvd from 4:30 - 6 p.m.

Saturday's game in Seattle will be televised live on Portland's CW beginning at 7 p.m. It will be the second of 10 games to air live on the network this season.
