Hitmen to host Red Deer Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Calgary, AB - The Portland Winterhawks extended their winning streak to a season high eight games with a 7-3 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Kieffer Bellows (2g, 1a) and Cody Glass (1g, 2a) led the Portland attack with three points each. Jake Gricius, Skyler McKenzie, Bronson Sharp and Joachim Blichfeld rounded out the scoring for the CHL's number four ranked team.
Tristen Nielsen, Matteo Gennaro and Orca Wiesblatt replied for the Hitmen. Nielsen's goal extended his career high point streak to five games.
Special teams helped propel the Winterhawks attack. Portland went 3-5 with the man advantage while killing all three Hitmen power play chances.
Calgary is back home on Saturday afternoon against the Red Deer Rebels. Game time is 1:30 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome for a contest originally scheduled for 2 o'clock. In honour of the CHL's 100th MasterCard Memorial Cup celebration, the Memorial Cup will be carried to centre ice by two veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces in a special pre-game ceremony. Fans will have a photo opportunity with the cup on the concourse behind section 223. It's also PURE '90s, presented by Stage West Theatre Restaurants, with over $3,600 in prizes to be won.
