Portland will host New Hampshire in a one-game playoff on Tuesday night

(Portland, ME) - The New Britain Rock Cats completed a five-game sweep of the Sea Dogs with an 11-7 victory on Sunday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. Despite being swept in the five-game series, the Sea Dogs will host a one-game playoff against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field - game time is 6:00 PM. The Fisher Cats lost three of four to the Trenton Thunder over the weekend at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

Garrett Guzman led the offensive charge for New Britain, going 5-for-5 with 6 RBI. Guzman finished the series with 10 straight hits and improved hit average to .312. David Winfree went 4-for-5, 4 RBI and Brock Peterson had four hits.

Chris Smith (6-9) suffered the loss for Portland, allowing 13 hits, 10 runs (nine earned) over five and 1/3 innings. Blake Maxwell made his Double-A debut for Portland and worked 2 and 2/3 innings on three hits and one run.

Ryan Mullins (4-3) beat the Sea Dogs for the third time this season, working six innings on five hits, four runs (three earned) and five strikeouts.

Portland jumped on the board in the first inning on a two-out, 2-run homer by Aaron Bates. The Rock Cats came right back in their half of the first on Guzman's two-run blast to right. New Britain jumped out to a 5-2 lead on Guzman's 3-run double in the second inning. The Rock Cats scored five in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 10-4 after four frames.

Jeff Natale added a 2-run single for Portland and finished with 3 RBI. John Otness had a run-scoring single during a two-run eighth inning.

The Sea Dogs dropped 14 of 21 to the Rock Cats this season. Portland has lost 22 of 31 since August 7, enabling New Hampshire to gain six games in the loss column.
