March 5, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Muskegon Lumberjacks
MUSKEGON, MI.--- The Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League have announced that goaltender Clayton Pool has been summoned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.
Pool, the 30-year old, 5-year pro joined the Griffins Wednesday night to serve as the understudy for Grand Rapids Goaltender Daniel Larsson in the Griffins 3-1 triumph over the Rockford IceHogs at Van Andel Arena.
The Lumberjacks veteran goalkeeper will continue to serve in the back-up role for the remainder of the week as Grand Rapids goaltender Jimmy Howard continues to recuperate from injury.
The Griffins departed earlier today for a Texas two-games\' road swing that will see the reigning Stanley Cup Champions Detroit Red Wings principal affiliate travel to Houston for a game tonight against the Aeros before journeying to San Antonio this Saturday night for a date against the Rampage.
In 30-games for Muskegon thus far this season, Pool has posted the IHL\'s premiere winning record of 27(18-5-4) and a winning percentage of .741. His 18-victories tie him for third most in the league while his 3.20 GAA ranks 4th and his .913 SPCT places him #2 in the league.
In Pool\'s absence this weekend, the Lumberjacks will rely on John Ceci to anchor the goaltending position for both of their crucial contests coming up this weekend on home ice at Walker Arena.
Ceci will get the nod Friday night when the \'Jacks lock antlers with defending league champion Fort Wayne and, again, Saturday night in a first place showdown against the Port Huron Icehawks. Both games are set for 7:00 pm.
A mid-season acquisition by the Muskegon club, Ceci has seen limited service thus far in his employing team\'s goal, having registered a 4(2-1-1) record in 7-appearances with a 3.93 GAA and .894 SPCT. Both of his wins have been attained in his most recent two starts.
