Madison Capitols News Release

GREEN BAY, WI - Led by center Eugene Fadyeyev, the Madison Capitols were victorious, 5-2, over the Green Bay Gamblers at the Resch Center on Saturday night.

Madison (9-12-1-1) is ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference with 20 points. Green Bay (13-11-1-0) sits in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 27 points.

"They've been working hard and doing the right things for the last three or four games," explained Capitols' Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. "And tonight, they were rewarded with two points that they definitely deserve. I'm really proud of the boys tonight!"

Madison doubled their lead to 3-1 with right wing Kamil Sadlocha's second goal of the season at 1:59 of the final stanza. Right wing Easton Brodzinski sprung Sadlocha on a breakaway down the left wing. Sadlocha carried the puck into the left face-off circle before blasting a shot between goaltender David Hrenak's legs for the game-winner.

Just two minutes and 22 seconds into the game, right wing Brock Caufield lit the lamp and gave the Gamblers a 1-0 lead. Center Matt Jennings backhanded a pass behind him to forward Jason Dhooghe who picked up the puck in the neutral zone and skated into the Capitols zone. Dhooghe wristed a shot on net from the bottom, inside corner of the right face-off circle and Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay made the pad save. The rebound bounced into open ice in front of the crease for the tap-in by Caufield.

The Capitols tied the game at 1-1 with Fadyeyev's third goal of the season at 8:17 of the opening frame. Madison blocked a clearing pass in the Gamblers zone and left wing Alec Broetzman grabbed the loose puck at the left point. Broetzman snapped a wrist shot toward the net and Fadyeyev redirected the shot past the netminder to tie the game.

Defenseman Philip Nyberg gave the Capitols a 2-1 lead at 6:40 of the second period with his second goal of the season. Defenseman Robby Fosdick cleared the puck from deep in the Capitols zone. Nyberg emerged from the penalty box after serving a two-minute minor and picked up the loose puck as he entered the Gamblers zone. The blueliner snapped a wrist shot past Hrenak's glove to give the Capitols a one-goal lead.

With two seconds left on a third period power play, left wing Jared Spooner brought the Gamblers back to within one with his ninth tally of the season. Cycling the puck in the Capitols zone, forward Dante Palecco fed the puck to defenseman Connor Mackey at the center point. Mackey handed the puck off to Spooner who carried it down to the left corner before returning back to the left point. Mackey and Spooner played a little catch and when Spooner received the puck back, he carried it into the left face-off circle before snapping a shot past McKay's glove to bring the game to 3-2 at 5:59 of the last frame.

Fadyeyev solidified the Capitols victory with his second goal of the game and his fourth goal of the season. Skating on the power play, Brodzinski sent a pass from the left face-off circle to center Noah Weber on the left doorstep. Weber put the puck in the blue paint of the crease and Fadyeyev tapped in the goal at 17:46 of the third period.

Broetzman finished off the Gamblers with an empty net goal at 19:52 of the final stanza.

McKay (7-4-0-1) earned his seventh win of the season stopping 32-of-34 shots. Hrenak (5-6-0-1) took his sixth loss of the season with 21 saves on 25 shots.

Madison went 1-for-3 on the power play. Green Bay was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
