Club de Foot Montreal News Release

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced on Thursday that five Canadian players from the 2011 roster have been invited to the team's first MLS training camp, in hopes of earning a contract for the 2012 season.

Defenders Nevio Pizzolitto and Simon Gatti, as well as forwards Eduardo Sebrango, Reda Agourram and Mircea Ilcu, have been invited by Impact head coach Jesse Marsch to join the team on the first leg of its training camp in Guadalajara, Mexico, from January 18 to 29.

"Each of these players has different qualities that we think can be successful at the next level," said Marsch. "We are interested to see how they could fit into our plans for next year."

Team captain for the last two seasons and an 18-year veteran with the team, 35-year-old Montrealer Nevio Pizzolitto played 15 games and 1,261 minutes in 2011. He was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2005, 2009 and 2010.

Defender Simon Gatti, 30, was named the Impact Unsung Hero in 2011 after leading the team with 22 starts and 1,953 minutes of play. Gatti played the last six seasons in Montreal after joining the club in 2006.

Striker Sebrango, 38, tallied six goals and one assist in 11 games last year after joining the Impact at mid-season. Sebrango has scored 104 goals in 270 career games in the North American second division. He has won five USL First Division championships, with Rochester (2000), Vancouver (2006, 2008) and Montreal (2004, 2009).

Quebec forward Reda Agourram, 21, has scored two goals in 30 games after joining the first team in 2010. In 2009, the Moroccan-born player helped the Impact reserve team win the Canadian Soccer League championship, while finishing the season with 13 goals.

In his first professional career season in 2011, forward Mircea Ilcu, 20, registered one goal and one assist in 11 games, including four starts. The Romanian-born player suited up with the reserve team in 2009 and 2010.

Goalkeeper Bill Gaudette, midfielders Leonardo Di Lorenzo and Amir Lowery, as well as forward Mignane Diouf, will not return with the club in 2012.

The Impact will play its first ever MLS game on March 10 in Vancouver, and will then play its home opener the following Saturday, on March 17, at Olympic Stadium. Season tickets are still available through the team's website at impactmontreal.com or by phone at 514-328-3668.
