Pitching dominates, Suns shut out Braves

Pearl, MS- In the middle game of a three games series, the Jacksonville Suns evened up the series by beating Mississippi, 2-0. Pitching was dominant as the Braves' pitchers combined for twelve strikeouts, while the Suns K'd eleven batters. With the twelve strikeouts, the 2010 Mississippi Braves set a new franchise record for strikeouts in a season (1,043). The old record was (1,033), set in 2007. 

Jacksonville was able to score a run in the top of the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs and a runner at first base, Ryan Curry and Greg Burns delivered back-to-back singles to bring in the run. The Suns scored their other run in the 5th inning. Lorenzo Scott singled to begin the inning to put a runner at first base. Tim Torres then teed off to left field on the pitch and ended up with an RBI double. The Suns took a 2-0 lead at that point and neither team scored the rest of the way. 

Mississippi had runners at first and second base when the game ended on a strikeout to Michael Daniel. Jacksonville has now tied up the series at a game a piece, with the rubber game to be played tomorrow night. Tonight was the 10th time the Braves have been shutout in 2010.

In the final game of the series, the Braves will pitch RHP Erik Cordier (10-7; 3.89). The Suns will use RHP Jose Rosario (3-3; 2.95). First pitch is set for 7:05 at Trustmark Park.
