Providence Bruins News Release

Providence, RI - A last minute goal from Austin Czarnik wasn't enough to lift an uninspired Providence.

It was a slow first 10 minutes of play, with neither team getting any significant scoring chances. The Pirates broke through with 3:42 to play in the opening farm when Sena Acolaste fired home a one timer from the left side boards. Wayne Simpson doubled Portland's lead 1:52 later in a nice passing sequence with Corban Knight.

The Pirates extended their lead to 3-0 after a bobble in front of the net resulted in Knight sliding one past Smith. Zane McIntyre took over in net with 11:04 to play in the middle frame.

The Providence Bruins somewhat found their feet in the their with a pair of bookend goals in the third. Brandon DeFazio broke the scoring drought for Providence on the power play 0:29 into the last frame with a one-timer from the slot. This marked DeFazio's 20th goal of the season.

Providence pulled McIntyre for six skaters on the ice with minutes to play, resulting in in Czarnik's goal with 0:44 to play in regulation. Ben Youds sent a centering pass from the sideboards to Czarnik who roofed the puck high glove side to make it a one goal game. The P-Bruins sent a flurry of shots on net in the final seconds of play, but nothing managed to break through.

The Providence Bruins will continue the home-and-home tomorrow night in Portland at 7:00pm. The next home age will be Wednesday April 13th against the Springfield Falons.
