Pirates Battle Bruins in Critical Atlantic Division Matchup

Portland, ME - The Portland Pirates will take on the Atlantic Division leading Providence Bruins at the Cumberland County Civic Center in a crucial divisional matchup. Puck drop is set for 7 PM for the last regular matchup between the Bruins and Pirates. Portland currently sits in 5th place in the Eastern Conference with 75 points, while the IceCaps sit in 3th place by virtue of leading the Atlantic Division with 83 points. Portland is coming off a 4-2 loss in Glens Falls against the Adirondack Phantoms. Portland allowed a goal to Tye McGinn just 9 seconds into the game, the fastest goal allowed by the Pirates in team history, but were able to take the lead early in the second after goals from Jordan Martinook and Brendan Shinnimin. However, the Phantoms would battle back, scoring three straight goals to cap the second period to win the game. Mark Visentin allowed 4 goals on 18 shots, while the Pirates put 42 shots on the Phantoms' Cal Heeter.

Providence is coming off a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Worcester Sharks. Michael Hutchinson stopped 15 of the 20 shots he faced, and Carter Camper, Torey Krug, and Jamie Tardif scored for Providence in a game that only featured 3 minor penalties.

Providence handed the Pirates their worst loss of the season the last time these two teams met, picking up a 7-1 win in Providence at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Portland goaltender Mike Lee allowed all 7 goals, while Jordan Martinook scored the only Pirates' tally. The 7 goals allowed by the Pirates was the second most allowed this season. Portland is 4-5 against Providence this season.
