Asheville Tourists News Release

KANNAPOLIS-- Riley Pint picked up his first win of the 2017 campaign with five shutout innings on Friday night as the Asheville Tourists knocked off the Kannapolis Intimidators by a final score of 5-1. Pint scattered four hits and struck out four. The right-hander capped his night by inducing a pretty 5-3-6 inning ending double play.

Intimidators' righty Alec Hansen kept Asheville's offense quiet until the top of the sixth. With both teams still searching for their first run, the Tourists exploded off Hansen right at the start of the inning. Vince Fernandez led off with a double and took third on Colton Welker's single.

Willie Abreu followed with an RBI double and Luis Castro, making his Asheville Tourists debut, doubled home two more runs. Asheville added some insurance with a two-run seventh inning. Cole Anderson walked, stole second, took third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a Fernandez RBI single. Abreu added an RBI later in the frame.

Kannapolis' only run of the game came in the form of a Seby Zavala two-out seventh inning Home Run. Ty Culbreth, Bryan Baker, and Reid Humphreys dominated out of Asheville's bullpen to help preserve Pint's first victory.

The Tourists stole a total of six bases and avenged an earlier loss this season to Hansen. Asheville and Kannapolis will hit the diamond again on Saturday night with the first pitch set for 7:05pm.
