Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Toledo, OH - The IronPigs begin a three-game series with the Toledo Mud Hens Friday night at Fifth Third Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Pigs have won four-consecutive series dating back to their two-games-to-one series victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox from April 14-16.

The Pigs will start RHP Ben Lively (2-1, 3.18) and the Mud Hens will send RHP William Cuevas (1-1, 5.73). Today's starting pitching matchup is presented by Allentown Family Foot Care, which provides the latest in medical and surgical treatments of the entire foot and ankle. Learn more at affc.com.

RHP Ben Lively makes his fourth start of the season with the Pigs after picking up his second win of 2017 in his last outing against Toledo on April 22. The right-hander tossed six innings allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four in the Pigs 6-1 win over the Mud Hens. The Pensacola, Fl., native is ranked as the Phillies No. 18 prospect by Baseball America and No. 25 by MLB Pipeline. He tied for the IronPigs team lead in wins a season ago with Jake Thompson with 11 wins, and Lively also notched 18 victories in all for the 2016 season - the most in the minors since 2008.

RHP William Cuevas makes his fourth start of the season for the Mud Hens after losing his last outing on April 22 to the Pigs. The Caracas, VZ, native did not record an out in the start and surrendered six runs (four earned) on one hit and four walks. Four errors behind Cuevas defensively also added to the Pigs six-run first inning in the Pigs 6-1 victory over the Mud Hens.

The IronPigs used two three-run innings in the third and fifth innings in route to a 7-4 victory over the Columbus Clippers Thursday morning at Huntington Park.

The victory gave the IronPigs their fourth-consecutive series win of the season and move to two games over .500 once again. The win in today's rubber match improved the Pigs record to 12-1 in rubber matches in their last 13 rubber matches.

After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning on a Richie Shaffer two-run home run to center that scored Bradley Zimmer, the Pigs came back with their first three-run inning in the top of the third.

Rhys Hoskins then led off the top of the fifth inning with his team and league-leading sixth home run on the season and he has now hit safely in eight-consecutive games. The former Eastern League Rookie of the Year has also reached base safely in his last 19 games, which is tied for best in the International League with Louisville's Sebastian Elizalde.

With the Pigs leading 4-2 after Hoskins home run, Nick Williams was hit by a pitch and Taylor Featherston singled to left to set the stage for Moore. Moore then doubled to right, scoring both Williams and Featherston to put the Pigs on top 6-2.

Pigs starter Mark Appel picked up his first win of the season, and his first win in more than a year as the former No. 1 overall pick last won on April 23, 2016 over the Pawtucket Red Sox. The Houston native went five innings allowing two runs on four hits and struck out five Clippers.

With the two-games-to-one series win, the Pigs won just their second series against the Columbus Clippers and their first season series victory over the Clippers since they took five-out-of-eight games in 2011.
