Pigs Fall in Finale to Red Wings
J.P. Crawford hit a solo home run, but the IronPigs (67-44) fell 5-2 to the Rochester Red Wings (62-48) Thursday night at Frontier Field.
After Andrew Pullin grounded out to lead off the ninth inning, Brock Stassi would walk and was followed by a Herlis Rodriguez single to bring the tying run to the plate. Scott Kingery would fly out to right field, putting the game in the hands of Crawford.
Crawford fell behind in the count early, as he fouled two straight balls out of play. Down 0-2, Crawford took three balls to make the count full before grounding out to second base to end the game as the Pigs fell 5-2.
The Red Wings took an early 3-0 lead on a Daniel Palka three-run home run in the third inning off Pigs pitcher Zach Eflin .
Crawford would get the Pigs on the board in the top of the sixth inning, as the shortstop drilled his 11th home run of the season as the Pigs trailed 3-1.
The Red Wings would add two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-1 lead before Rhys Hoskins drove home Scott Kingery with an RBI single to right to make it a 5-2 deficit.
Eflin would take the loss, as the right-hander surrendered five runs on nine hits.
The Pigs now continue the second half of their road trip with a three-game set with the Buffalo Bisons at Coca Cola Field beginning Friday night. The Pigs will send right-hander Tom Eshelman (7-2, 2.14) and the Bisons will send right-hander Lucas Harrell (0-1, 2.05). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
